Naked Basics Palette
I am sure you are all sick of reading reviews on this palette but I wanted to put my two pence worth in as I think this palette has mixed reviews.
I was lucky enough to win this in a giveaway on Hot Mess In A Dress, so was very grateful about that. Thank you Cassidy.
I was really intrigued as to see if this was worth the hype, having owned the other two palettes I wanted to see if a third was taking it too far.
As you can see the palette contains 6 shadows which are all matte except the lightest shade Venus which is more of a satin finish. It is also a lot smaller than you expect, it fits on my hand. The packaging is a similar texture to Nars, it has that rubbery feel to it. I also found it quite difficult to get open but I still prefer this packaging out of all three palettes.
I am not usually a fan of matte shades as I find them chalky and lack pigment but these are nothing like I have tried before. They are really smooth and one touch and you get a good colour pay off. Obviously slightly less pigmentation on the lighter shades. I do find the shade crave feels a little rough to the touch but that is forgiven as it is the most pigmented black shadow I have ever seen. You literally have to touch you brush slightly into the pan to get enough colour.
I think if I was going o change anything about the palette it would be to remove either w.o.s or Foxy as I have found these shades I don't really use. I think if a grey shade was added instead this would be perfect.
Overall I think this a fantastic palette and I have created some great neutral looks with it. I don't think it is a must have but if you are lacking neutral matte colours in your collection then it definitely is worth checking out. I also think it would be great if you are just starting out with wearing make up.
Have you tried this palette yet? What's your thoughts?

I haven't tried the palette but I am more intrigued by this one rather than the big ones.
ReplyDeleteI actually think I prefer to the others. x
DeleteHow strange we both blogged about urban decay today lol! I wouldnt but this because i think it is too basic for me, i like shades with more pop. I think the lightest shades would get lost behind my goggles :-) great view btw x
ReplyDeleteThat is very strange. Great minds think a like hey? It definitely gives more of a subtle look. x
Deletei agree with you that a grey shade would be a nice addition and give the palette more variety. as neither of the other naked palettes have a matte grey shade :). good review :)!!!
ReplyDeletei haven't really been drawn to this palette because i think i propably already have some decent dupes for all the shades but now it's starting to look a lot more desirable in my makeup-addict-eyes hah :D!!
That's exactly what I was like. I was not bothered by it at all to begin with but the more I heard about it the more I wanted it. x
DeleteThis is a great prize to win. Really want this palette as I love matte shadows the best and being so small it would be easier to carry around.
ReplyDeletegreat little post. Cassidy is so generous
xx
Thank you. It was a very exciting prize to win. x
DeleteI want this palette, I need some more matte colours in my collection!
ReplyDeletex
get it when Debenhams has 10% off, its a complete bargain then. x
DeleteI have heard such mixed reviews about this and just don't know what to make of it! I have the Naked 1 and really like it so this seems a bit meh for me, I think they could of done with one more shimmer for my personal taste :) Great swatches! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you. i think basics is definitely the right title for it, as it is that. I think it is great if you wear very subtle eye looks. x
DeleteThis palette looks great! I've always had my eye on it but I've never been sure whether to actually invest or not x
ReplyDeleteI was exactly the same. If you are a make up junkie like me I say go for it. ;) x
DeleteI e been wanting this but wasn't sure, my request it for my birthday! :D beat review I've read so far!! Xxx
ReplyDeleteaww thanks hun. :) I hope you get it for your birthday and love it. x
DeleteI've wanted this ever since I first heard about it - This is the best review I've read and I may invest in it :)

thank you, thats so sweet. Let me know what you think if you get it. x
DeleteCongrats on the win! This palette in particular looks easy to dupe with an 88 palette, have you found any so far?
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually look to be honest, but I will and I'll let you know. Good thinking. x
DeleteI'm so tempted to buy this when my spending ban is over as I think I only own one or two matte eyeshadows and would like a little palette like this xx
ReplyDeleteEvelyn @ We Were Raised By Wolves
I think you would love it hun. Let me know if you decide to get it. x
DeleteI like the paler shades to the darker ones. When an eyeshadow doesn't have any shimmer in I always dust over a white shimmery eyeshadow (I use a Natural Collection one) to add some sparkle :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. I do like an all matte look though sometimes. x
DeleteGreat giveaway win, I love this palette but am trying to cut back on buying anymore eyeshadows x
ReplyDeleteI'm the same, I really don't need any more. x
DeleteI don't really know what to think about this palette. I like the idea of an all matte palette but too many 'skin like' shades to my liking. Great review
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Thank you. x
DeleteI like original Naked palette more than this one:)
ReplyDeleteI actually think I prefer this one. x
DeleteHmmm I'm not one to spend that much money on any of the Naked palette even though my favorite would be the original one, but I just hate matte shades and never use them, so I was disappointed when I read reviews on this one. Glad they are not chalky though!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely has had mixed reviews. x
DeleteI love this palette so much! It is a new must have for me!
ReplyDeleteI love it too. :) x
DeleteI'm still so undecided about this! I think if the black was a dark brown and W.O.S and Foxy were a little more interesting (more brown, less 'nude') I think I'd NEED it in my life. But for now I know I would never touch Crave and the other colours - apart from Naked 2 - probably wouldn't get much love from me either. Also, I only invested in the Naked 2 palette about a month ago so I'm still a little in love with the shimmer! Lovely review xxx
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I still get a lot of use out of it though. To be honest I don't think its a must if you have the other two palettes. x
DeleteI have a lot of eyeshadow palettes including Naked 1&2 (don't we all?!) but when I swatched this instore.. the colours felt so chalky and dusty? It looks gorgeous on your wedding inspired makeup look.. but I've not fallen in love with the palette like I have done with every other UD palette :( <3

thats a shame, they honestly don't feel chalky at all to me. I don't think it's a must have if you have the other two palette anyway. x
DeleteArghhhhh the Palette that has me so undecided! Im torn with it. I want it, but I want the darkest brown colour to be a bit more darker ha! xx
ReplyDeletehaha I know what you mean. I still think its worth it. x
